Vipul Dutta

A scholar and educator, Mr. Dutta specializes in and teaches modern Indian history at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati. He combines teaching and research interests in Indian and South Asian military and diplomatic history. With a background in history from Delhi University, JNU, and a PhD from King’s College London, he authored ‘Making Officers out of Gentlemen: Military Institution-building in India, 1900-1960’ (OUP; 2021). The book uncovers the fascinating history of India’s self-reliance in establishing institutes of military training and education in the early twentieth century.
